Congratulations on becoming parents!
It is one of the biggest joys on this planet – so enjoy it!
We know how little and fragile Newborn babies are and we also know that they can be very challenging! …...............but at Forever Timeless Photography we love a challenge and adore working with them anyway!
Please read the following information which will help you prepare your baby for their Newborn photography session.
PLANNING THE SESSION
Booking a Newborn Photo Shoot
We recommend your book your Newborn photography session at our studio near Glasgow in advance. It is advisable to contact us after your 20-week scan to advise us of your due date and we can book you a session. Don’t worry if the baby comes earlier or later than expected just let us know in good time. We will send you full information about what to expect prior to the appointment.
Arrival Day!
Newborn photo shoots should be scheduled within the first 14 days. Though, the best time is between 4-10 days after their arrival. Babies tend to do better in photo shoots within the first 7 days of their life because they sleep most of the time. The more they sleep the easier it is for us to move them around into those gorgeous sleepy Newborn poses everyone loves. Keep in mind that baby acne usually starts to appear around 14 days so let's get the little bundle of joy photographed nice and early.
Location
Our warm and cosy studio is the perfect place for your Newborn shoot, please be aware that the studio will be very warm for the arrival of your baby so please wear layers so you can strip off to make yourself comfortable.
Props
We have a collection of blankets, wraps, baskets, knit hats etc which can be used in your Newborn Session but we really encourage the use of your own props to personalise your photographs. If you have anything with the baby's name or even just their initial or their first teddy, in fact anything you think would add to the photographs please bring them along.
What to Wear
Keep your clothing simple and really enjoy this beautiful and unique experience.
Parents are the most important “props” a baby has. For mum we suggest long sleeves and light coloured, solid tops. A long dress with a light pattern can add flow and softness to the shoot. Dad can wear a solid shirt to compliment mum’s color. A plain white vest top for mum makes bare shoulder shots more comfortable.
Brothers and sisters of the baby, should they be in the portrait, should be in solid, neutral colors (cream, white, grey) to keep all the focus on the baby.
Baby will be bare for some of the images but wrapped in blankets. Keeping everyone else in neutral colors will keep the focus on baby when they are wrapped up in a colorful wrap. We do not recommend using Newborn outfits and all in one suits because they tend to be too big and cover their cute little toes. However, if grandma made a special outfit, let’s take a few shots as it will be precious to her!
Preparing your Newborn for their photography session
About 30 minutes before the session, please remove socks. This allows the little imprint marks time to disappear.
Because we want the baby to be very sleepy during the session. We recommend that you try to keep your baby awake for a while before the session. Trust us, it will be worth it!
Please feed and burp the baby right before the session to ensure baby is happy and sleepy. We may ask you to feed and settle the baby during our session if they start to get cranky.
THE SESSION
Silence is Golden! If you plan to have children a part of your Newborn session, we recommend bringing them in the beginning or end of the session and then have someone take them. Only those being photographed should be at the session. We use soft classical music in the studio to help relax baby.
Relax! We are comfortable working with Newborns. The baby may get fussy, but we will get great shots; sometimes it just takes time to calm down the little bundle of joy. We let the baby take the lead. Sometimes the baby will need to eat, get a new nappy and just need a cuddle from mum. Babies know when the parents are stressed, so keeping the environment mellow and calm helps to keep the baby calm.
The baby will be bare so we may see them use the blankets as a nappy. It is ok. We clean up and move on. There is no need to feel embarrassed as we always have plenty of wipes
Your baby is of course in safe hands, we have photographed hundreds of Newborn sessions. If there is ever a point during the session where you become uncomfortable, please let us know. We will not put the baby in unsafe positions, even if the parent wants to get a specific pose! If we feel it is unsafe, we will not proceed. The baby’s safety comes first.
We cannot tell you how much we all looking forward to seeing your little beautiful baby!
